With this membrane, the constantly renewable raw material coffee meets Schöffel's high quality requirements naturally and provides the optimum support for users in their activities – no matter how challenging.

What is AIRMEM™?

Like S.Café®, AIRMEM™ is based on coffee grounds, supposedly a waste product that is left over when coffee is made from beans. In the first step, coffee oil is obtained from this residue. This recycled resource can then be used not only as usual by the cosmetics industry, but is also the basis for the production of the lightweight membrane. And replaces 25% of the usual raw material, petroleum. AIRMEM™ combines advanced material technology with more environmentally-friendly manufacturing.

What does AIRMEM™ mean for the consumer?

The AIRMEM® membrane makes textiles windproof and water-proof. The excellent level of breathability supports moisture transport and leaves the skin feeling pleasantly dry. The combination of the underlying S.Café® technology and this special membrane can absorb and inhibit odours twice as well as conventional variants. So users can look forward to a fresh, pleasant wear experience.

Sustainability plays an important role at Schöffel, which is why Bamboo Charcoal is used as a new ecological raw material. This raw material is another foundation stone for responsible production, and focus remains on environmental protection. The property of infrared heat reflection also gives the newly-developed fiber a special meaning as an alternative base for textile production.

What is Bamboo Charcoal?

Bamboo Charcoal is a unique symbiosis of nature and technology. It is made from selected, four-year-old bamboo. The bamboo is carbonized and then added in powder form to a polyester fiber mix. The actual yarn is then spun from this fiber mix. Since the yarn is extracted from the natural resource bamboo, which grows very quickly and does not require artificial replanting, it is very environmentally friendly.

What does Bamboo Charcoal mean for the consumer?

The material is characterized by an absolutely soft feel, and is generally softer than pure cotton. It also offers more functionality than polyester, so it remains extremely light, highly elastic, and easy to care for. That's because the charcoal is enclosed in the fiber, so it does not wash out. Another advantage of this newly-developed fiber is the reflection of the body's own thermal radiation. Embedded IR-reflecting particles in the bamboo fiber reduce the cooling of the human body by throwing the body heat – essentially infrared light that we release ourselves – back to the body. As a result, the wearer cools down less and the body stays pleasantly warm.

What is 4D BODY MAPPING?

What is Bodymapping?

Bodymapping technology requires a number of individual steps. First of all, it is important to identify the areas of the body that put particular stress on the clothing during sporting activities. Next, the product is differentiated by gender and area of application. These two factors are then taken into account as the fabric of the garment is woven more intensively around these defined areas. Effectively, the hard-working areas of the garment are reinforced. Products made with this method are perfectly tailored to special weather conditions, different areas of activity or other specific requirements. A small amount of Cordura – a polyamide fiber – in the stripes or pattern further increases abrasion resistance and makes the item more resistant and durable. Another advantage of Bodymapping is that different patterns can be woven without using different items, creating an extremely clean design with no seams.

Schöffel is backing a genuine alternative to down in comfortemp® down feel by Freudenberg. The lightweight yet voluminous insulating material resembles natural down and is produced without the use of chemicals. Another step towards sustainability.

What is comfortemp® down feel?

comfortemp® down feel mimics the natural properties of down, and consists of 85% recycled PET bottles. It is a type of cotton that is both very soft and fluffy, which makes the material lightweight and quick-drying. The sustainable padding with insulating properties is manufactured without water or chemicals and with a low energy consumption. At the same time, it impresses with its high level of insulation and is an excellent substitute for down.

What does comfortemp® Fiberball down feel mean for the consumer?

The feeling of down, but made of recycled materials – that's what wearers of Schöffel products with comfortemp® down feel can expect. The lightweight, thermo-insulating material is extremely soft to the touch, which results in excellent wear comfort. Plus the thermal retention is ideal thanks to the high volume. At the same time, the recycled material consisting of up to 85% recycled PET provides the optimum breathability and keeps the wearer warm even when wet. The scrim that is placed over the padding also increases the resistance to fiber migration. This means there are no cold spots after washing because the material does not clump and the wearer remains warm all over.

Schöffel uses a novel alternative to thermal insulation in the innovative, technical material comfortemp® Fiberball Padding manufactured by Freudenberg Performance Materials, and in doing so is taking a further step towards sustainable textiles. The recycling-based padding replaces conventional down, and is used as a warming intermediate layer for sports and functional textiles. The excellent performance of this new dimension in thermal insulation provides athletes with fabulous support in their outdoor activities.

What is comfortemp® Fiberball Padding?

This synthetic material consists of a large number of tiny contiguous fiber balls. Air inclusions are created by the special core structure, which results in high, constant thermal insulation and the optimum breathability. And although the wear feeling is the same as that of real down, this material does not clump. Sustainability and animal welfare also play an important role in the production of this padding, because it is an innovative hi-tech alternative to down. The fiber balls are made 100% of recycled PET bottles, which means that a total recycled content of 70% is achieved after the addition of further binding fibers.

What does comfortemp® Fiberball Padding mean for the consumer?

This innovative high-tech insulating material is used as a replacement for conventional down, and offers a very pleasant, fluffy, soft wear feeling. At the same time, textiles made of this ecologically valuable padding provide the optimum performance and support wearers in their sporting activities. In addition to the excellent insulating properties, they also offer the highest breathability. The cotton padding has the optimum bulkiness and is resistant to clumping and fiber migration. No lumps occur after washing that could lead to cold spots, so the wearer is kept perfectly warm at all times.

In COOLMAX® CORE, Schöffel has opted for a technology that benefits primarily in thermal regulation and moisture wicking. What is COOLMAX®?

COOLMAX® CORE is a technology that is used above all for functional garments that are worn directly against the skin. Its basic material is polyester which, unlike cotton, does not store moisture and so dries more quickly. Products made from these fabrics are therefore ideal as the foundation in the layering principle because they keep the wearer dry and provide the optimum support thanks to the additional breathability and functionality.

What does COOLMAX® CORE mean for the consumer?

Thanks to the large surface area, COOLMAX® CORE technology is notable for drying particularly quickly and for the pleasant wear feeling. Perspiration and moisture are reliably transported away, leaving the wearer at a comfortable temperature and dry. Providing the optimum support for their performance. Schöffel uses three of five different product variants to adapt functional mountain sports clothing to a wide range of weather conditions: the classic Dermizax®; the specialised Dermizax® EV, and Dermizax® NX.

What is Dermizax®?

All Dermizax® modifications are based on a high-tech PU (polyurethane) membrane. The stretchy membrane is non-porous and hydrophilic, which reduces pore blockages from sweat particles, dirt or detergent residues. This efficient membrane structure results in high breathability even with longer and intensive movements, because moisture escapes via the molecular structure of the PU rather than through the pores, as is usually the case. Furthermore, this construction also contributes to long-lasting functionality even with years of and frequent use. The two specialisations NX and EV are variations of this all-round material that were developed for special weather conditions.

Dermizax® EV redefines the term comfort for performance fabrics. In addition to the characteristics of the classic membrane, this hard-wearing material also offers improved windproofness for particularly stormy weather conditions.

Dermizax® NX is notable for having an even thinner membrane for even higher breathability than Dermizax® EV. This means improved moisture wicking, as it is is transported away even more rapidly. The results is an extremely pleasant wear feeling in humid conditions.

This is because the moisture does not escape via the pores, as is usually the case, but via the molecular structure of the membrane. Dermizax™ EV redefines the concept of comfort in performance fabrics. What is Dermizax® NX?

Dermizax® NX is based on an extremely thin non-porous and high-tech hydrophilic (water-loving) PU (polyurethane) membrane. This is a new development at molecular level, since the binding of the hydrophilic PU molecules is precisely controlled and arranged in a highly functional 3D structure. This new technology enhances the diffusion of water vapor molecules, which leads to an extreme increase in the transmission rate and with that to greater breathability. In addition, the non-porous construction of the stretchy membrane ensures the reduction of blockages from sweat particles, dirt or detergent residues. Even during long and intensive activities, Dermizax® NX remains highly breathable, as the moisture is able to escape faster via the microporous structure rather than, as is usually the case, via pores. This results in an extremely comfortable wear feeling in humid conditions. The construction also contributes to long-lasting functionality even with prolonged and frequent use.

Down is light, yet warming at the same time, which is what makes it so popular for outdoor products. High quality and RDS certification are essential for Schöffel. It is so popular as an insulation material because it is unbelievably light and packs down very small, which makes it perfect for Schöffel outdoor products.

What is down?

Down refers to the fine feathers found under a bird's tougher exterior feathers. They are also known as down feathers. Elastic in structure, they are made up of countless very fine barbules. They are excellent at including air, and therefore perfect at storing body heat.

When using animal products, Schöffel is careful to ensure that no animals have suffered in their production. Schöffel only uses white and grey down and feathers from geese and ducks from RDS-certified sources. This rules out any likelihood of the material originating from a farm where the animals are force fed and live plucked. As a company, Schöffel attaches particular importance to animal welfare and now, by committing to RESPONSIBLE DOWN STANDARD (RDS) company certification, has taken a further step towards the responsible sourcing of down. This includes the supply chain, which means that only down from animal welfare-friendly farming is used for its products, starting with the animal farm and continuing all the way through to the actual processing of the down.

What does down mean for the consumer?

The best heat output in relation to the low weight and volume – that’s something wearers of Schöffel down products can rely on. In cold outdoor experiences in particular, the lightness coupled with excellent heat regulation is excellent. Plus the products are supple, soft and highly compressible. Thanks to the high breathability, wearers can also enjoy a pleasant body temperature. Furthermore, consumers of Schöffel products have the assurance of RDS certification, which means that the down and feathers in their products come from appropriately husbanded animals. All of the points in the product's supply chain comply with the RDS standard. Be it the breeding of the animals on the farm, their transportation or slaughter, only if 100% of the criteria and guidelines are fulfilled will the product receive the status of RDS certification and be used by Schöffel.

Schöffel sets a high standard for lightweight products that are comfortable to wear with Dryfast, which is manufactured by the Italian company Pontetorto. This manufacturer is generally known to stand for versatile materials that perfectly prepare outdoor enthusiasts for the most diverse activities. Dryfast is a particularly high-quality, functional first layer product that perfectly supports the wearer when worn as the first clothing layer in the layering principle.

What is Dryfast?

The Dryfast collection includes lightweight, fine textiles, the inner surface of which is covered with hydrophobic fibres, which means that they are water-repellent. They include, for example, polyester and polypropylene. The outside of the Dryfast items consists of a hydrophilic (moisture-binding) polyester fibre with a wicking finish. This causes the moisture of the skin to be optimally transported to the outside. As the result, the garment dries quickly and leaves the skin feeling dry and comfortable. It can also help to counteract "pills", or pilling, which is when the fabric forms tiny knots or balls of fluff on the surface of the fabric. This is caused mainly by friction or frequent wearing.

What does Dryfast mean for the consumer?

Dryfast provides a good skin feeling and rapid moisture transport for a dry and natural wear experience during intense physical activity. Due to the high quality of the yarns, clothing made of this material is highly resistant to pilling, so it also meets the highest aesthetic requirements.

Schöffel's fleece products are functional garments that are perfect for wearing as lightweight warming layers for sporting activities in summer and in winter. These textiles, which have a high thermal rating for their low weight, also appeal for everyday wear and in all kinds of leisure activities. Schöffel uses various kinds of fleece that are suitable for a wide range of weather conditions, and so is able to offer the right product for any area of use.

What is fleece?

Fleece is a knitted fabric with a soft, roughened surface. Tiny yarn loops are created in the production of knitted fabric that are cut open and roughened to create the soft, cosy structure. The higher the surface weight of the material in grams per square metre, the higher the thermal rating of the clothing. The weight generally ranges from 100 to 300 grams, which means we can distinguish between different weight classes of fleece variants.

Micro Fleece is the version with a grammage of up to 210 g/m². It is the perfect year-round companion, and can also be worn directly against the skin as a comfort layer. Along with all the usual characteristics, it is particularly thin and light, and packs down small.

Another modification is Medium Fleece, which has a grammage of between 210 and 300 g/m². This achieves a higher thermal rating. The fabric is the perfect midlayer for lower temperatures.

With its grammage of at least 300 g/m² or more, Super Warm Fleece provides a pleasant warmth when it is really cold in winter or in the high mountains.

Very special comfort thanks to the high elasticity is provided by the version Stretch Fleece. It combines the characteristics of fleece and stretch, and so can even be used for close-fitting cuts with maximum function.

What does Fleece mean for the consumer?

Wearers of fleece products have the benefit of extremely soft, warm, cosy materials combined with reliable functions. Moisture is transported away from the body to the outside, which is why the fabric dries quickly. Thanks to the dense fibre structure, fleece also has a certain water-repellent property. Breathability is still retained. These durable, resistant textiles also offer the optimum thermal insulation, and so protect against cooling down. At the same time, fleece clothing offers an excellent level of wear comfort and feels pleasant against the skin thanks to the cosy, shape-retaining material.

The combination of Schöffel and GORE-TEX® provides the best material for the most extreme requirements. The interaction between Schöffel and GORE-TEX® results in products that offer the optimum weather protection and are the ideal combination of technical performance and wear comfort. What is GORE-TEX®?

The GORE-TEX® membrane is made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a fluorine and carbon polymer. The membrane is an extremely thin layer that can be combined with highly technical outer materials. It is usually connected to an upper material, and in some cases has an additional insulating layer. For all Schöffel products, the membrane is laminated to high-quality polyamide or polyester. The size of the numerous small pores in the laminate is responsible for the excellent breathability despite the waterproofness. They are so small that only water vapour molecules are able to pass through; water cannot penetrate. An integrated protective layer against dirt particles or residues of personal hygiene products prevents contamination of the pores and ensures that, with the right care, the waterproofness is preserved for a long time to come.

GORE-TEX® product classes

We differentiate between various product classes that are designed to suit various activities and climate conditions. By processing them with different high-quality textiles, the performance of the membrane can be reinforced as appropriate to its particular purpose. Two common GORE-TEX® classes are 2-layer and 3-layer.

3-layer: The membrane is not visible as it is firmly connected to the upper and lining materials. This allows for a higher durability because the product is able to last longer without much volume, and also provides reliable protection against wind and weather.

The insides of some highly functional Schöffel 3L products with GORE-TEX® are made from a dope-dyed yarn. In this instance, the dyeing takes place during the spinning process and not, as is usually the case, applied to the fibre. This modern "dry" colouring technique saves the resources water, electricity and natural gas, which makes it particularly environmentally-friendly.

What does GORE-TEX® mean for the consumer?

GORE-TEX® provides windproofness for durable products. Completely welding all the seams makes the products waterproof and delivers the highest level of weather protection and wear comfort. Optimised breathability allows perspiration to escape freely to the outside in the form of water vapour. Every laminate is an excellent combination of interesting looks, weather protection, durability and breathability. Regular and professional care will ensure long and effective use of the product. Schöffel has been processing GORE-TEX® to deliver highly functional clothing for over 30 years.

Unique innovation by Schöffel – INTELLITEX® HEAT. This technology provides heat at the touch of a button. Schöffel's heated clothing is playing to its full strength and revolutionizing ski clothing on the market.

What is INTELLITEX® HEAT?

INTELLITEX® HEAT technology is a genuine world first. Schöffel is the first supplier to integrate heating technology in a complete ski outfit. A milestone for skiing, because the ski pants and jacket prevent injury in cold temperatures while also enhancing performance. INTELLITEX® HEAT consists of one millimeter thick Nano Carbon Tubes that are not noticeable, are super-light and extremely comfortable. The heating membrane lies in the shoulder and thigh areas of the lining material, and is waterproof against perspiration and moisture. The heating system is operated by a powerbank (5 V, 2.1 ampere output) and starts simply at the touch of a button. This automatically switches on the first level. The control buttons are pressed again to set the desired level of heating individually. The various heat levels are indicated by the color of the ring around the control button. White stands for heating level 1, orange for level 2, and red for level 3. The heat is felt in moments. The push button flashes to indicate that the heating system is working until it reaches the desired heating level. What is special is that a sensor permanently measures the temperature in the direct vicinity of the heating system and maintains a constant level of heat. If there is no movement for three minutes, the system enters the standby mode, and starts again with the wearer's next movement. The ski jacket and pants with INTELLITEX® HEAT technology are waterproof, of course, and can even be washed together with the integrated heat pads, cables and so on in accordance with the care instructions. Only the powerbank has to be removed before cleaning.

What does INTELLITEX® HEAT mean for the consumer?

Schöffel wants to provide the wearer with the best possible support for breaks and sporting activities in nature. Schöffel uses lyocell as an especially ecological alternative to conventional man-made fibres and cotton. The environmentally-friendly, resource-saving production of this material is reflected in the outdoor products and thus is a further step towards sustainability.

What is lyocell?

Lyocell is a fibre that is made industrially from natural raw materials. It is often based on the raw material wood, such as eucalyptus, oak and birch that is obtained from sustainably managed forests. The main raw material for lyocell is therefore cellulose, and so it can be regarded as a recycled or regenerated fibre. These plants grow without artificial irrigation, and thus the farming saves resources and is kind to the environment. It also requires far less water than does the conventional production of cotton, for instance. The production of lyocell starts with separating the cellulose from soaked wood chips and then mixing it with a biodegradable atoxic solvent. The water is drawn out of this mixture by heating it under vacuum. This dissolves the cellulose and creates a spinning solution. After filtration, the liquid is pressed through spinnerets and into a water bath. This is where the fibres are produced from which the yarn can be spun. The process is called the direct solvent process. The production process is considered far more eco-friendly than that for other regenerated fibres such as viscose due to the environmentally-friendly solvent and closed material cycle. Schöffel also uses lyocell fibres by Lenzing AG which bear the registered brand name TENCEL™, but also have the same characteristics.

What does Lyocell mean for the consumer?

The durable material offers the optimum moisture management and, thanks to the smooth fibre surface, is ideal for sensitive skin. It is cool in warm conditions and warm in cold conditions. It is able to absorb 50% more moisture than conventional cotton. This results in a higher absorbency of such textiles, which are also extremely easy to look after.

What is organic cotton?

Unlike conventional cotton, organic cotton is organically grown in a controlled manner. This means there are strong restrictions and prohibitions on the use of toxic and non-degradable chemical pesticides as well as fertilizers and genetically modified material. This reduces the impact on the environment. The water consumption in production is also lower because hardly any irrigation is necessary. Rainwater is used for irrigation purposes, which leads to a lower water consumption than with "normal" cultivation. An added advantage is that because no chemicals are used, groundwater remains clean. Organic cotton is just as easy to process as conventional cotton. It is usually harvested by hand, so the raw material is often purer and of higher quality.

What is P4DRY™?

P4DRY™ is a special print technology applied to the inside of a product that also uses coffee grounds, in this case as the basis for the print. This print with practical properties is applied to the inner fabric layer of a product. What is perPETual?

perPETual is an environmentally-friendly recycling method in which PET bottles are converted 100% into a new textile material. Special filtration technologies are used to recycle old plastic bottles into high-quality, sustainable polymer components (ester). Standard polymerisation can then be used to turn this sustainability acquired ester into recycled polyester as the basis for all PET products including textile clothing. This resource-friendly method, which can be used to produce a wide range of yarn thicknesses, requires far less energy than other recycling methods. The amount of waste from plastic bottles is also reduced. And the water consumption is an amazing 86% lower than for new polyester.

What is Pertex® Quantum?

This membrane consists of numerous nano fibers that are layered on top of each other to produce a network of fibers. Polartec® Alpha® is a honeycomb-shaped polyester knit that stores body heat in countless air chambers. What is PrimaLoft®?

PrimaLoft® is a synthetic insulation material made of polyester. It protects against the cold and is used as a substitute for conventional goose down. Soft, very fine microfibres are used in the production of this material, which are heated and then connected to each other via numerous contact points. The result is a flat mesh structure of fibres and small air chambers that mimics the structure of down. This achieves a similar functionality to that of animal feathers, namely the excellent heat retention. Body heat is optimally stored in small spaces while cold air is unable to penetrate.

What is PrimaLoft® Black Eco?

PrimaLoft® Black Eco is based on the general conditions of the PrimaLoft® basic material. However, it does have one peculiarity in that it is a post-consumer material (PCR). This means that it is made from waste materials that result from the use and consumption of plastic products. The fibres of this environmentally-friendly product version are 100% recycled. What is the RECCO® rescue system?

The RECCO® rescue system is a highly sophisticated radar technology in which part of the system, the reflector, is integrated in the wearer's outdoor clothing. The counterpart to this is the RECCO® detector, which is used by mountain rescue services in the search for casualties or avalanche victims. The reflector is a small passive transponder, similar to an RFID chip, that is hardly noticeable and is sewn e.g. into the ski clothing. This is the passive part of the system that the athlete can wear in a wide variety of clothing, inside a helmet or in their boots. It is so small and light that it is completely unnoticeable. The detector is the active part that is used by the rescue team in the search for injured or buried persons. The detector is available in two versions, depending on whether it is to be attached to a helicopter, for instance, or to be used as a hand detector by the rescue team. The detector emits a radial radio signal similar to the light cone of a flashlight. When this signal hits the RECCO® reflector, it sends back an echo and the seeker can identify the direction of the injured party. The closer the detector gets to the reflector, the stronger the signal so localization can follow. According to the manufacturer, the maximum range of the RECCO® hand detector for avalanche detection is about 80 meters on the surface and 20 meters under snow. The RECCO® SAR helicopter detector, which is used by a helicopter, enables the users to search an area of one square kilometer for missing persons in about six minutes, with the helicopter searching a search corridor at a height of about 100 meters and traveling at around 100 km/h.

Although the RECCO® system can be very helpful in the search for accidents, consumers must always remember that this reflector will not protect them from, for instance, being buried in an avalanche. What is T8 Tech?

T8 Tech consists of billions of tiny fibers that look like a coil. It is a two-component fiber made of PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) and PET (polyethylene terephthalate). Schöffel uses lyocell as an especially ecological alternative to conventional man-made fibres and cotton. The environmentally-friendly, resource-saving production of this material is reflected in the outdoor products and thus is a further step towards sustainability.

What is Lyocell?

Lyocell is a fibre that is made industrially from natural raw materials. It is often based on the raw material wood, such as eucalyptus, oak and birch that is obtained from sustainably managed forests. The main raw material for lyocell is therefore cellulose, and so it can be regarded as a recycled or regenerated fibre. These plants grow without artificial irrigation, and thus the farming saves resources and is kind to the environment. It also requires far less water than does the conventional production of cotton, for instance. The production of lyocell starts with separating the cellulose from soaked wood chips and then mixing it with a biodegradable atoxic solvent. The water is drawn out of this mixture by heating it under vacuum. This dissolves the cellulose and creates a spinning solution. After filtration, the liquid is pressed through spinnerets and into a water bath. This is where the fibres are produced from which the yarn can be spun. The process is called the direct solvent process. The production process is considered far more eco-friendly than that for other regenerated fibres such as viscose due to the environmentally-friendly solvent and closed material cycle. UV protection during outdoor activities is also an important issue with Schöffel clothing. UV radiation affects the human body, and in particular the skin. As every item of clothing plays a part in protecting the skin it covers, provision of the UV protection factor (UPF) is essential. The level of this protection depends on the material.

What is UV protection?

The UV protection factor (UPF) states how much longer a person wearing UV protective clothing can stay in the sun without suffering skin damage. The calculation of the protection time is based on what is known as the skin's self-protection time, although this can vary tremendously depending on skin type. As a general rule, every single item of clothing helps to protect the skin beneath it. The denser the material is and the more skin is covered, the greater the garment's protective effect is.

What is Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)?

Wool has an excellent reputation as a natural functional material. It offers terrific thermal regulation even when wet. The natural material is of extremely high quality and optimally supports wearers in their outdoor experiences. When using animal fibers, Schöffel takes the greatest care to ensure that no animals have suffered in their production.

What is wool?

According to the Textile Labeling Act, wool is the soft fleece of a sheep or lamb. Like down, wool is fabulous for regulating heat, which makes it ideal as an insulating material. The wool fibers are curly. Air is trapped in the gaps between the curls, which in turn provides warmth. These air chambers also prevent cold from penetrating from the outside and ensure that moisture is transported away quickly. Furthermore, wool is impervious to moisture, and can in fact absorb it to a high degree to leave the skin feeling dry.

What does wool mean for the consumer?

Maximum wear comfort – that is what wearers of Schöffel wool products can expect. Animal welfare is the main consideration with the wool used for these products. The company only uses wool that does not come from farms that practice mulesing. Mulesing is a method in which a skin fold is removed from below the sheep's tail (usually without anesthesia) to prevent maggots from settling there. Schöffel's wool products also offer excellent heat regulation, which means they keep the wearer warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather.
